CONWAY SPRINGS — Humboldt junior Noah Johnson accomplished a personal goal on Saturday by earning a medal at the Kansas State Powerlifting Championships in Conway Springs.
Johnson finished in third place in the squat by clearing 425 pounds.
“I was pretty excited to be able to finish top three in squat,” Johnson said. “The ultimate goal for any high school sport is state. I have been lifting my whole life to have the opportunity to make a name for myself on the leaderboards at the highest level of competition: state.
“So to be able to represent and bring home the third place medal from Conway Springs to my school and myself was a real honor and dream of mine.”
The 198-pounder had a shot to earn second with his final lift of the meet at 440 pounds — with the silver medalist lifting 430 pounds — but just missed completing the lift.
“I did not get the third one,” Johnson said. “I assume it could be because of the track meet the night before.”
